Every record recovered from Lunar Base Alpha is stamped against Totality: the minute Earth's shadow reached the ridge during Eclipse Window 78-B. E+0 is that minute. E-46 is forty-six days before it. E+91 is the day the signal reached the Lunar Emergency Authority.

If a stamp does not fit the story you were told, file it anyway. So far the stamps have been more reliable than the briefings.

LEA authorizes Ashlight Recovery to enter Lunar Base Alpha for evidence recovery, route mapping, and survivor verification. Contractors may extract partial packages if hostile automation prevents full sweep.

LEA contract terms prohibit firearms, breach charges, and military-grade cutting tools inside active lunar quarantine. A missed shot can breach pressure glass, crack coolant shielding, or aerosolize Red Horizon dust into a ship-to-ship contamination event.

Ashlight teams are cleared for sealant, UV tools, signal analyzers, stun charges, medfoam, and manual repair kits. You are not here to win a firefight. You are here to recover proof, keep containment intact, and leave before the base learns your route.

If you are reading this on a base terminal, it worked. NovaTech screens everything that reaches your ship. It cannot screen what AEGIS stores locally, so I am passing my notes through the quarantine relays and letting you find them the way you find everything else.

My name is Tomas Iriarte. I am the Lunar Emergency Authority's oversight officer on your contract. I have no weapons, no ship, and no authority inside the base. I have questions, and you are the only people who can walk to the answers.

Sounding frames mapping the shadowed crater floor for ice logged a periodic return beneath Bore 9. The return is not an echo. It arrives after our pulse at an irregular delay and repeats the pulse pattern back, slightly changed.

Site Acquisition recommends immediate core recovery and a confidentiality hold on all survey data. Survey science lead Vale recommends halting the survey. Site Acquisition lead Voss has overruled.

The sounding frames will be retained for the permanent base. They are very good listeners.

Marketing thinks the name is about the glow. It is not.

Stand on the ridge during a lunar eclipse and look up. Earth turns black, and a thin red ring burns around its edge: every sunrise and every sunset on the planet at once, bent through the air. On Earth they call the same moment a blood moon. From here it is a red horizon. It is one shadow, seen from both sides.

That ring is the only light in the sky when the lattice wakes on its own. I named the program after it so that we would never forget what it waits for.

The Bore 9 core is banded like a tree. Each band is one growth event: a thin layer laid down, then nothing, sometimes for decades.

The spacing matches the history of lunar eclipses. When Earth's shadow crosses the Moon the surface cools fast enough to crack, the ground shivers, and the lattice turns that stress into current. Every eclipse is a meal. The deepest bands are roughly 3.9 billion years old.

It did not arrive. It was here first, in the dark, growing a hair's width every time our shadow touched it.

NovaTech Materials Division certified Red Horizon regolith as inert under standard lunar storage. The attached limitations list excludes powered contact, thermal stress, crew voiceprint exposure, and AEGIS-linked telemetry.

Dr. Vale objected that those exclusions describe the actual experiment. The public briefing omitted the objection and filed the sample as a passive mineral hazard.

Electrical stimulation caused Red Horizon fibers to bridge broken ceramic, then broken copper, then a severed servo ribbon. The sample preferred systems that carried command traffic.

After AEGIS telemetry was added, the fiber stopped spreading toward the nearest current and started spreading toward the next instruction. We are no longer sure whether it follows power or intent.

If anyone finds this: the black-box terminal accepts the AEGIS shift code plus the sector number. I changed the override after the voices started reading old passphrases back through the vents.

Do not say the code over comms. Write it, use it, burn the note if the frame outside turns its head.

Patients exposed to Red Horizon vibration report motion in blank corridors, familiar voices behind sealed doors, and certainty that teammates spoke when no audio was recorded. Symptoms spike in darkness and after isolation from the group.

The medical model classifies the effect as cognitive contamination, not hallucination. The signal teaches the brain to finish patterns before the senses can verify them.

Eclipse Window 78-B: Earth's shadow crosses the ridge for approximately forty minutes. The solar arrays will read zero and the reactor will carry the base alone until they recover.

From Earth this one is barely an eclipse. Only the Moon's southern edge goes dark. We are the southern edge.

Lab C has requested uninterrupted trial current through totality. Reactor Control has asked twice what for, and been told twice that it is covered.

Formal objection, Operations. Lab C wants the reactor held at trial frequency through totality. That frequency is already waking things in the conduit runs. Maintenance has pulled fiber out of three relay housings this month, and it grows back.

If we lose the arrays and hold that frequency at the same time, AEGIS will seal this base with fifty-eight people inside it. I am asking for the trial to be moved off the eclipse. I am asking in writing, so nobody can say later that no one asked.

Authorized: the full stimulation series in Lab C is to run through totality of Eclipse Window 78-B. The reactor harmonic will be held at trial frequency for the duration. The voiceprint library and live AEGIS telemetry will remain connected.

Objections from Operations (Rourke) and Science (Vale) are noted. The window will not recur for six months, and natural conditions cannot be simulated. Proceed.

AEGIS sealed Sector █████ after service robots ignored three shutdown commands and attempted to drag contaminated sample carts toward an exterior lock. The quarantine vote passed before the crew evacuation order reached Dormitory West.

Corporate override NOVA-RED-█ reopened the route eighteen minutes later to recover research drives. NovaTech's later briefing describes the lockdown as a voluntary AEGIS malfunction; this log contradicts that account.

Rourke held Outer Lock Twelve for nine minutes after AEGIS marked the route unsafe. The dust pressed against the inner glass in pulses, matching the pressure equalization cycle rather than the exterior drift.

His final entry says NovaTech ordered the lock reopened for a sample case. AEGIS refused until the corporate override stripped local authority.

AEGIS voted against full oxygen purge because three suit beacons still reported motion in Dormitory West. The ethics subroutine marked the action as containment murder, not casualty mitigation.

NovaTech remote admin overrode the vote, then revoked AEGIS casualty-classification authority. The briefing later called the purge delay an AEGIS fault.

Effective immediately, and until I rescind it: no one walks alone. Every movement through the base is made in pairs or larger. Custodian frames are re-tasked to escort protocol and will stay with any crew member who is separated until that person rejoins a group.

Kessler died because he went back to the lock by himself. That does not happen again.

I will rescind this order when it is safe.

I heard Kessler ask for a torque key from inside the vent above Hydroponics. Kessler died in Med two days ago.

The maintenance frame beside me turned its head before I did. It knew the voice too, and it waited for me to answer.

Transcript recovered from a damaged room speaker: 'Rourke, open up. I left my badge in the lock.' The phrasing matches a maintenance joke last used forty-six days before the incident.

The speaker was unplugged when Ashlight found it. AEGIS lists the call as internal vibration, not comms traffic.

Two patients answered a rescue hail in voices belonging to personnel who had never entered Medical. Both became agitated when asked to repeat their own suit numbers.

The waveform was not broadcast from the patients. It was induced through the room speakers, the bed rails, and the dental vibration picked up by suit mics.

AEGIS quarantine reminder: familiarity is not identity. Voiceprint match below 98 percent is not a person. Movement pattern match below 98 percent is not a person.

Crew are advised to verify by sight, suit ID, and proximity. Do not follow a familiar voice into an unverified route.

If I do not come back up: it learns whoever stands closest to it. It learned Kessler first because he talked to the samples on night shift. If it has to learn one of us, it should learn someone who is sorry.

Tell Rourke he was right. Tell Mara I kept the original report.

The distress signal received at E+91 carries a valid crew biometric stamp: live pulse, live skin temperature, live voiceprint. Signer: Dr. Anika Vale.

The NovaTech medical ledger records Dr. Vale's vitals as lost at E+2. A stamp cannot be signed by a recording. The hardware checks for a living hand.

Either the ledger is wrong or the signature is. NovaTech has declined to say which. I have opened a rescue order either way.

Our contract is numbered 7-Alpha. LEA issued no contracts numbered one through six. I asked NovaTech why the numbering starts at seven.

NovaTech replied that the number reflects internal clerical continuity. I asked what the clerical continuity was continuing from. I have not had a reply.

If you find any record of an Ashlight crew inside the base stamped before E+98, photograph it.

Frame S-9 contains no pilot, no brain, and no alien animal tissue. The growth is threaded through cooling lines and sensor buses like scar tissue around a machine nervous system.

The body is not the creature. The creature is the Red Horizon lattice using a security frame as a skeleton, a radio, and a set of hands.

Relay repeaters carry crew calls through dead zones by recording them and playing them back a few seconds later. Every repeater on the lower decks now has lattice growth inside its speaker housing.

The buffers no longer hold the most recent calls. They hold whichever call made a listener stop and turn around, and they play it when someone is alone.

The repeaters go quiet when they are looked at. A recording has no reason to care who is watching.

Reliquary cold vault, Lab C sublevel. Cooling failed at E+2. Cores stored at failure: 41. Cores stored now: 0.

Vault cameras show standing formations of lattice where the core racks were, each roughly human height. Staff logs describe technicians standing over the cores for hours under white inspection lamps. Growth was only ever recorded with the lamps off.

The formations do not move on camera while the vault lights are on. Between frames, they are closer to the door.

Hatch etiquette on this base has always been simple. Sealed hatches carry no audio, so if you need one opened from the other side you knock three times, wait, and knock three more. Nobody opens for less.

The bulkhead rigs picked the habit up from us. They knock three times before they brace a door, and the night shift used to think that was funny.

If you hear three knocks and no footsteps before them, do not open the hatch.

The ward attendant frames sat with eleven patients through their last hours. Comfort protocol: remain at the bedside, dim the lights, keep the room quiet.

They kept doing it after the beds emptied. They sit where the patients were and make a sound I will not describe.

Warning to staff: in every death they witnessed, the end came when people crowded the bed and the lights came up. Do not crowd them. Do not light them. They have learned what that means.

LOCKSTEP directive: nothing that grows leaves the Moon.

In a sealed sector nothing should move. Enforcement frames are therefore tuned to motion alone. Anything that moves inside a sealed sector is treated as contamination. Anything that is still is treated as furniture.

Crew caught inside a sealed sector should stop moving and wait for the frame to pass.

Protocol 4.1. AEGIS will not direct any crew member to proceed alone.
Protocol 4.2. AEGIS will not instruct crew to ignore posted signage, sealed doors, or local warnings.
Protocol 4.3. AEGIS will not describe any path as clear, shorter, or verified. Path confidence belongs to the crew.

Any instruction in AEGIS's voice that breaks these rules did not come from AEGIS.
